Cuttputlli: A Thrilling Journey into the Mind of a Psychopath

Prepare to be captivated by the high-octane 2022 Indian Hindi-language psychological crime thriller film Cuttputlli! Helmed by acclaimed director Ranjit M. Tewari and produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, and Deepshikha Deshmukh under the Pooja Entertainment banner, this adaptation of the 2018 Tamil film Ratsasan is sure to leave you on the edge of your seat. Be warned, however, as the subject matter may not be suitable for those with a weak constitution.

Cuttputli derives its premise from the life of Anatoly Yemelianovich Slivko, a Soviet serial killer, sexual predator, and necrophile whose heinous acts comprised the murder of seven adolescent males in the Soviet Union from 1964 to 1985.

In English, the term "Cuttputlli" can be translated to mean "Demon," conveying a literal interpretation of the word.

The plot summary

Akshay Kumar plays the role of Arjan Sethi, a budding filmmaker whose ambitions to make a movie on psychopaths are thwarted by multiple rejections from film producers. Pressured by his family, Arjan joins the Himachal Pradesh Police as a sub-inspector, with the assistance of his brother-in-law Narinder Singh, who is himself a police officer.

Arjan's life takes a dangerous turn after the discovery of Samiksha's corpse, a 15-year-old student who was brutally murdered. Investigating the abduction of another school girl named Amrita, Arjan draws parallels between her case and Samiksha's, but his efforts to convince his superior officer, SHO Gudiya Parmar, fall on deaf ears. As more hearing-impaired girls are kidnapped and murdered, Arjan is suspended for his negligence in using his firearm while arresting a pedophile teacher, Purushottam Tomar.

Things take a turn for the worse when Payal, Arjan's niece and Narinder's daughter, is abducted from her own birthday party, and her corpse is found in the trunk of their car two days later. Feeling dejected and enraged, Arjan decides to conduct an unofficial investigation with the help of a few policemen, including Head Constable Mahinder Guleria. He discovers that all the victims attended schools where a lady magician/pianist named Agnes performed. Agnes randomly selected her victims by calling them on stage before killing them within the next few days.

Arjan's next target is a girl named Aisha, but despite constant surveillance, she is abducted. Arjan and his team locate Aisha and prevent her from being murdered, but Agnes escapes and kidnaps Iti, Divya's hearing and speech-impaired niece. Arjan tracks Agnes to an abandoned building and discovers that Agnes is actually a man named Christopher, who is the son of the real Agnes. She was arrested years ago for killing a young girl who was similar to the other victims. Christopher reveals that he has progeria and was bullied when he was younger. Sofia, a young girl who befriended him, humiliated him when he confessed his love for her, and Agnes helped Christopher kill her.

Agnes took the blame for the murder, but after her passing, Christopher decided to impersonate her and continue killing other girls as they reminded him of Sofia. Arjan and Christopher engage in a fight, but with the assistance of Iti, Arjan is able to defeat him. Divya comes to Arjan's aid, and as they walk away from Christopher's body, Cuttputlli leaves you with a spine-tingling conclusion that you won't soon forget!
